Why the Ministry mentors the young
The ministry raises each young person as a leader in his or her own sphere of influence, so that in turn they will rebuild their communities.
Our vision is of a Christ-like generation changing communities. That vision is fulfilled in individuals, through the sustained attention of an older person who knows a young one by name and stays with them across years.
Mentorship runs through the whole work of this Ministry. It is present in devotional class, in our school outreaches, in the sponsorship relationship, and in the skilling programme.
What mentorship provides to a young person
Spiritual mentorship
Young people are helped to discover who they are in Christ, and are formed in Christ-like character.
Guidance and counselling
Mentors offer guidance and counselling at the points where a young person’s direction is being decided.
Formation for leadership
Each young person is raised as a leader in his or her own sphere of influence, with a view to what they will build in their community.
Who the Ministry mentors
Mentorship reaches the children within our discipleship and sponsorship programmes, the learners we meet through our partnering schools, and the youths and single mothers who enter our skilling programme.
Mentors are drawn from our leadership, our volunteers, and our partnering congregations. They serve without payment, and the relationships they carry are among the most demanding commitments made within this Ministry.
