Why the Ministry equips rather than supplies
Mayuge Hope Ministries trains youths, single mothers, early school leavers, and vulnerable families in practical trades, so that a household is able to break up the dependency syndrome.
Relief meets an immediate need and ends when the giver departs. A trade remains in the hands of the person who learned it, and it continues to provide for a household long after the training has closed.
Community empowerment is one of the six core areas of Mayuge Hope Ministries, and its stated purpose is that those we train are able to break up the dependency syndrome.
What the Ministry teaches through this programme
Tailoring
Training in tailoring, which supports a household through steady local demand
Hairdressing
Training in hairdressing, a trade that can be practised from within a community.
Farming
Training in farming, which strengthens both household food security and income.
Crafts making
Training in crafts, giving a marketable skill that requires modest equipment to begin
Liquid soap and exercise books
Our current skilling programme equips participants in liquid soap making, crafts, tailoring, and exercise books making.
Who the Ministry trains
Our skilling programme receives unemployed youths, single mothers, parents, early school dropouts, and vulnerable families. Many arrive through the other work of the Ministry, having been known to us as guardians of sponsored children or as households under our care.
Training runs through the week and concludes with a trade in hand. The Ministry’s intention is that a participant leaves able to earn, which requires equipment as well as instruction.
Tailoring machines remain among the standing needs of the Ministry, since the number of women and young people we are able to train is governed by the equipment available to us.
